LLCSD Independent Study Program Information
The LLCSD Independent Study Program, in alignment with AB130, offers an alternate learning environment for students for the 2021/2022 school year. The program is voluntary and is available for students in grades TK - 8.
Independent Study Program - Asynchronous vs Synchronous
The LLCSD Independent Study Program requires students to work asynchronously, or independently for a large portion of the school day. Live, synchronous instruction will take place in short time blocks using an online platform.
Grades TK- 3: Will receive daily daily synchronous instruction
Grades 4-8: Will receive weekly synchronous instruction and daily live interaction
Pupil rights regarding procedures for enrolling, disenrolling, and reenrolling in Independent Study
Parents can enroll their child in Independent Study by contacting the Educational Services Department at (562) 868-8241. For the 2021/2022 school year, a written agreement must be signed no later than 30 days after the first day of instruction.
Upon written request from a parent/guardian, students may return to in-person instruction within five days. The student can return to their home school if space permits, or will be offered placement at a neighboring school.
A parent or guardian may request a parent conference to review the independent study written agreement, or inquire about the Independent Study Program, curriculum, and supports. This conference may be held via phone, videoconference, or in person with all parties who signed or will sign the student's independent study written agreement.
