Dear Jersey Community,
I am honored to serve as the principal of Jersey Avenue Elementary School. Jersey is a family to me. As a family we work together with a single purpose in mind; student success. Jersey Avenue Elementary School, “Home of the Eagles”, is one of nine schools in the Little Lake City School District located in Santa Fe Springs, California. At Jersey, teachers, staff members, parents, volunteers, and the community work together to support students academic and social-emotional development.
Jersey Avenue Elementary School employs highly qualified and dedicated teachers and support staff to effectively provide a robust standards-based curriculum based on the new California State Standards. Over the past few years, teachers and staff have been implementing the new standards with a single focus on student achievement. This transition has brought with it new challenges and opportunities. Jersey prides itself on being a leader in technology in the district, with over 200 new Chromebooks deployed TK – 5th grade, a new computer lab, and robust adaptive learning software to supplement core instruction. The new devices and software have come with intense training for teachers, staff, and students.
Along with the focus on the New California State Standards, and with the infusion of technology for all students, Jersey has maintained its focus on procuring a fun and safe learning environment for all. Jersey has implemented a 3-tiered model of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports to ensure that behavior expectations are clear, that positive behavior is reinforced, and that students feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment. This model includes supports for students and parents. With added resources in the form of school counseling and an anti-bullying program, which provide wrap-around services for student’s social-emotional and academic well-being.
Similarly, Jersey has implemented a robust 3-tiered intervention model, which targets support to students at multiple levels. Students receive targeted and intensive supports based on the most current data available at each grade level. This attention to every student, including all subgroups, is the focus of teachers, staff, and administration.
This hard work has resulted in Jersey receiving a number of honors, including: the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence Award five years in a row (2013-2017), the Title I Academic Achievement Award in 2016, the California Gold Ribbon School Award in 2016, and the Model Professional Learning Community at Work award in 2017.
