Educational Services
Under the leadership of Monica Johnson, Educational Services oversees all curriculum and staff development for teachers and principals. The Division is responsible for maintaining standards-based programs, ensuring the acquisition of standards-based instructional materials, collecting and interpreting student performance data and their relationship to instruction. The Division also oversees instructional technology and manages the implementation of state and federally-funded programs such as Title I.
Monica Johnson was promoted to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services effective July 2018. Prior to assuming this role, she served very successfully as a teacher and principal at Jersey Avenue Elementary School and principal of Studebaker Elementary School.
ARTS & MUSIC IN SCHOOLS
On November 8, 2022, California voters approved Proposition 28: The Arts and Music in Schools (AMS) Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. The measure required the state to establish a new, ongoing program supporting arts instruction in schools beginning in 2023–24.
