Prevention Resources - Bullying and Harassment

Little Lake City School District prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on the actual or perceived characteristics of a person’s disability, gender, gender identity/expression, nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or association with a person or group with one or more persons of these actual or perceived characteristics. This policy applies to all acts related to school activity or school attendance occurring within a District School.

Bullying Defined

Board Policy 5131.2 and Educational Code 48900(r)

Definition: Bullying is defined as any severe or pervasive physical or verbal act or conduct, including communications made in writing or by means of an electronic act that has the effect of or can reasonably be predicted to have the effect of: 

Placing a reasonable pupil in fear of harm to his or her person or property;
Causing a reasonable pupil to experience a substantially detrimental effect on his or her physical or mental health;
Causing a reasonable pupil to experience substantial interference with his or her academic performance; or
Causing a reasonable pupil to experience substantial interference with his or her ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school. 

These acts are intentional, carried out repeatedly and over time, and are conducted in the context of an imbalance of power; for example, the offender is significantly older, stronger, more popular and/or a group of students are doing it to a single student. Such acts are prohibited and will not be tolerated. This includes the misuse of technology for the same purpose.

Any person that has been victim of or witnessed bullying or harassment on school grounds, during school activities, or going to and coming from school is highly encouraged to report the incident immediately to a school staff member, counselor, administrator (principal or assistant principal), or other personnel on campus. You may choose to include your name or keep it anonymous. Please note that the school/district’s ability to investigate an anonymous complaint may be limited and the district prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports bullying.
